The Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) started implementing its new Regulations in January 2017. It was therefore very important that the Authority engages different stakeholders, using different platforms with targeted messages. The first countrywide tour took place beginning of the year in the form of workshops, and was a huge success. The second, which was also very successful, took the form of kgotla meetings in the mornings and street activations in the afternoons. It started on the 9th of August 2017 and ended on the 1st September 2017. The tour covered 12 areas; Ramotswa, Lobatse, Goodhope, Kanye, Moshupa, Gaborone, Tsabong, Kang, Ghanzi, Shakawe, Maun and Francistown.
The objectives of the tour were to create awareness on the reforms in the education and training sector, educate stakeholders on the BQA mandate, solicit stakeholder buy-in into the new system, and encourage community leaders, parents, sponsors, employers and learners to be vigilant and enroll only in BQA accredited Education and Training Providers (ETPs), for accredited learning programmes. The key legislative framework, and the transitional arrangements were explained throughout the road shows.
